The Laboratory Vision: From One School to Something Bigger
People sometimes ask what success looks like for Tradewinds. Do we want to build a network of schools in all 50 states?
No.
The goal is for Tradewinds to be a laboratory for educational innovation. A place where we can develop new approaches to teaching gifted students, test them rigorously, and then share what works.
That means open-sourcing our curriculum and technology. It means partnering with researchers, innovators, and local educators who want to apply these ideas in their own contexts. A school in rural Montana and a school in downtown Chicago face very different challenges, but the underlying principles of how gifted kids learn are universal.
That’s why we’re building the Tradewinds Center for Advanced Education alongside the school itself. The Center is the vehicle for turning what we learn at Tradewinds into something bigger than one school in one neighborhood.
Most educational innovation happens in isolation. A brilliant teacher develops something remarkable in their classroom, and it stays there. The Center exists to change that—to capture what works, package it, and make it available to anyone who wants to use it.
One school can serve dozens of families. A laboratory can influence thousands.
